DCNX5K: Configuring Cisco Nexus 5000 Switches v3.1

Configuring Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches (DCNX5K) v3.1 is a 5-day ILT training program designed to serve the needs of systems and field engineers, consulting systems engineers, technical solutions architects, and Cisco integrators and partners who install and implement Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches and Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders. This course covers the key components and procedures required to configure, manage, and troubleshoot these Cisco Nexus platforms.

DCNX5K latest version is v3.1 which now include features available in Cisco NX-OS Software Release 7.0(2)N1(1) for Nexus.

This includes but not limited to the following:

Course Objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • Identify the specific products that make up the Cisco Nexus product families and provide a high level overview of their features and common deployment models. You will also be able to recognize the advanced data center class features and functionality of the Cisco Nexus 5500 Series Switch. Common network architectures implemented using the products and features of the Cisco Nexus Product family will also be presented.
  • Discuss the administration and management options for the Cisco Nexus 5500 and 5600 Series Switches
  • Describe Cisco NX-API and Phyton network programmability options
  • Configure Cisco Nexus 5500 Series Switches and Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders for scalable and optimized operation in an enterprise network or data center specific to LAN networking.
  • Describe and configure VXLAN on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches.
  • Configure Cisco Nexus 5500 Series Switches for scalable and optimized operation in an enterprise network or data center specific to the SAN network. Identify the components, structure and operation of the Fibre Channel protocol as implemented on the Cisco Nexus 5500 Series Switches.
  • Configure Cisco Nexus 5500 Series Switches and Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders for scalable and optimized operation in an enterprise network or data center. Identify the components, structure and operation of the FCoE protocol, and the IEEE Data Center Bridging Ethernet enhancements as implemented on the Cisco Nexus 5500 Series Switches.

Suggested Pre-requisites

The knowledge and skills that a student must have before attending this course are as follows:

  • CCNA Certification recommended.
  • Recommended attendance of a Fibre Channel Protocol class or equivalent experience.
  • Recommended attendance of the Implementing Cisco Storage Network Solutions (ICSNS) class or equivalent experience.
  • Recommended attendance at the Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks (SWITCH) class.

During the course of instruction the learner will be exposed to the configuration of advanced technologies, such as Fibre Channel, QoS and FCoE, but will not be required to have experience with these technologies in order to successfully complete the class. This course covers initial configuration of Fibre Channel, QoS and FCoE on Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches. For a deeper understanding in Fibre Channel, QoS and FCoE, students are encouraged to explore additional training in those technologies.
